Fear and Loathing in Texas

Hidden away in some dark corner of Austin was one fine night of music at the Hideout. Fires first appearance at SXSW was hindered by the clubs 'no drink' policy but it was still a fine evening away from the bright lights of 6th street...hope you were there with us...

Monthly Fire Night @ The Spitz

Many of you will be aware of the free monthly Fire Nights that we've been putting on at The Spitz in recent months. Over 300 people squeezed in to see Tenebrous, Virgin Passages, Hush The Many and The Great Depression in January and a few days ago their was a similar number for the launch party of the excellent Gerry Mitchell & Little Sparta album Scalpel Slice - supported by David Hurn & Four Seasons Television, North Sea Navigator and Grand Old Dukes. Well the good news is that these free Friday night showcases will continue but the bad news is that we are taking a break in March due to the SXSW Festival in Texas (where we'll be showing off our finest bands) and April as the Spitz is putting on an Alterntive Blues Festival (dont worry - Dave Cloud is playing!!!). We'll be back (albeit briefly) in May for the launch party of Aberdeen duo 'Tells' (May 24th!) but due to the World Cup there wont be a showcase in June either. Rest assured though that normal service resumes in the summer with two more fun filled nights on Friday July 29th and Friday August 25th. More details in the live section

Fire welcomes Dave Cloud & Gospel Of Power

Fire is pleased to welcome Dave Cloud & Gospel Of Power. The Nashville legend will release Napoleon of Temperance, a 2 CD 50 track classic, on April 24th. He will also be flying over to Europe for the first time to support both Silver Jews (Aprl 24th) and Archie Bronson Outfit (April 20th) - the latter part of the alternative blues festival at The Spitz. A residency at the BergenFest in Norway swiftly follows.

Cloud's handpicked contingent of caballeros 'Gospel Of Power' includes members of Lambchop and Clem Snide and will conjure the distinctive sonic magic Nashville has enjoyed for over two decades.

"He sounds more like a cross between acid-addled Roky Erickson and boozed Beat writer, the late Charles Bukowski, than Steve Earle or Willie Nelson." THE WIRE

The Great Depression hits the UK

Acclaimed US duo 'The Great Depression' will be playing a special one-off show - their first in the UK - supporting Tenebrous at The Spitz in London on the 27th of January 2006 (Friday).

"Soft and dark in its appearance, almost theatrical in its manner. These guys have definitely got it where it counts, even throwing in a touch of Brian Wilson magic along the way"

The show is the first of a series of regular Fire nights at the cult venue.
