Cats Peak

The Silt

1st December 2008 - Album - FIRECD127

This is the debut ‘proper‘ release from Toronto-based experimental folk trio The Silt and their first for Fire Records after two lo-fi outings on their own label.

£10.00

Skilled at their craft, The Silt are able to both astound with their skill (their drummer plays bass and drums at the same time!) and use it for more improvised forays. They are the true meeting of pop and experimentalism, most notably on soulful album opener “Come Back To The Willow”. ‘Cat’s Peak’ features sublime harmonies, words of nature’s magic and love’s mysteries delivered with a fine avant-folk country sensibility, ‘A grand mix of Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and a subdued Magnolia Electric Co… this album is, simply, a pure delight.’ A veritable super group of Toronto’s young, improvised music community, Ryan Driver’s solo will also be released by Fire in early 2009. The Silt are: Ryan Driver: vocal, synth, guitar, flute, bass flute, drums Doug Tielli: vocal, guitar, trombone, bass Marcus Quin: vocal, bass, drums, bass clarinet, guitar
