Matthew songs float, hover, pick themselves up into a gentle meander, explore slipstreams and weave their way into your consciousness. Sure, they share a poignancy with Costello, a weird playfulness with Beck, a pathos with Paul Simon and even a childish something with Harry Chapin, but in the end, they ooze a wistfulness all of their own, which leave you with a sense of the surreal and everyday wonderment, and hey, just a little bit awestruck too.
