Following the release of lucky break’s first single, comes new track ‘Red Balloon’ out 21st October via Fire Records.
‘Red Balloon’ was the first lucky break song ever recorded. A tender and melodic track that perfectly captures the 23 year old’s knack for homegrown radio hooks, blending modern indie pop and classic alt rock. Its release comes ahead of her debut album out early next year.
‘Red Balloon’ is about the courage necessary to leave a relationship with love. “It allowed me to express gratitude, as well as the belief that everything will work out, because endings are beginnings too,” she says.
Produced by Elliot Woodbrige (Ha Vay, Grace Powers), they captured the track at WOW Music Studios in Mill Valley, California. After they recorded it, they played it repeatedly on a road trip from Mill Valley, across the Golden Gate Bridge, and into San Francisco. It was later mixed and mastered by Grammy-nominated Jessica Thompson.
The new version, ‘Red Balloon (Closet Version)’ expands upon the original track, providing a refreshed interpretation about the courage necessary to leave a relationship with love. “It allowed me to express gratitude, as well as the belief that everything will work out, because endings are beginnings too,” she says. The single is released alongside a new extended music video.
The original music video was recorded in LA with regular collaborator Margaret Gobbell who, due to illness, had to cut the filming short. As a result, lucky break filmed all the b-roll the day after she moved out of LA which was also when she quit her job at a record label.
“I threw everything I owned into my car and filmed the rest of the ‘Red Balloon’ video from the passenger seat while my ex-boyfriend drove us back to San Francisco.”
