Haylie Davis belongs to an intriguing scene that boasts several acts harking back to the halcyon days of Laurel Canyon songwriting. From origins of psychedelic folk pop and 70s cosmic Americana, Haylie’s sound is an infectious alternative take on modern pop music, with plenty of hooks and a huge chorus; she is the Carly Simon for post-Generation Z. Her euphoric range sits somewhere between Joan Baez, Carole King and Emmylou Harris.

Her debut album Wandering Star, released via Fire Records, follows Davis as she leaves home and everything familiar behind in pursuit of something larger. Having found a new home within a burgeoning West Coast scene alongside Sam Burton, Drugdealer and Alex Amen – a community of artists connected by a shared love of classic songwriting, but each approaching the craft in their own way – the album captures that same sense of searching: the pull of an inner calling, the courage it takes to step into the unknown, and the difficult, necessary work of finding your way when the path ahead feels uncertain.

“I believe everyone has a calling, a whisper in their heart,” Davis says. “Deciding to listen to it might feel like an impossible choice, or at least it did for me. It also takes a lot of courage to be a wandering star. To be lost and find the will to keep going is a very difficult thing to do.”

Wandering Star is a culmination of Haylie’s life: the wins, the losses, the people she has met, the places she has been, and her life up until this point.
