Is it really three years since Black Lips unfurled their caustic monster ‘Apocalypse Love’? A tour de force unearthing Soviet synths, Benzedrine stupors, coup d’états, stolen valor, and the certified destruction of all things ordinary, all set against a black setting sun. The kids just loved it…
Now, gearing up for a new album later this year, Black Lips return with new single Wild One (out May 20th): a western-paced, Morricone-like romp through another day in Hell. Imagine the Mary Chain’s love of Phil Spector on a collision course with Johnny Cash penning the theme tune.
‘Wild One’ is a mantra for the hungover, a skin-crawling lament in praise of the wild at heart—living fast, dying young, and leaving a good-looking corpse. And all in just under four minutes. Still impossible to pin down, Black Lips continue to embody a reckless authenticity that most bands can only fake.
