Hand Me My Backside
The Nightingales
The Nightingales follow 2025’s blustering broadside ‘The Awful Truth’ with a suitably acidic limited edition flexi-disc featuring new single ‘Hand Me My Backside’ and zine with original paintings by Fliss Kitson.
- Lmited Edition Flexi-disc 7″ with zine
£12.00
A discordant post-punk rumble that’s swiftly offset by dramatic strings that summon up monochrome angst and blurry film noir tension, ‘Hand Me My Backside’ is a rampaging beast on which Rob Lloyd pontificates on jacking it all in on the back seat of a bus as his world spirals.
“Hand me my backside” is a slang variation of the phrase “get your ass handed to you,” which means to suffer a heavy, embarrassing, or complete defeat.
Mid frenzy, his conscience is interrupted by Shangri-La gone wrong sirens Felicity Kitson and Natalie Mason who
question his reasoning. The track gets a bit Hitchcockian, as the whirlwind of violin and cello builds into a tumultuous climax where the world, and all involved, head into the abyss. Somehow, it all happens in three minutes, as our hero and sullen sourpuss, by his own admission, pontificates on a life with doubts aplenty.
