Whitney K reveals new single ‘Jolene’ from his upcoming album ‘Bubble’. North American tour dates now announced

Modern-day troubadour Whitney K delivers another slice of life with ‘Jolene’, the third single from the upcoming album. ‘Jolene’  is a gorgeous piece built on minor chords with a yearning steel guitar rolling under a conversational storyline, with memories that meander and a melody that’s pure melancholy.

“Nomadic Canadian channelling magical realism, country rock and Lou Reed”  Uncut
“Remarkably sophisticated musical blend… inventing exciting new directions for roots music all along the way”  ★★★★ MOJO

Across the track, Konner’s understated vocals drift beneath a bed of country-infused guitars, supplementing their Americana warmth with questions and scenes hued by dream-like fondness. A subtle and steady track to compliment the kinetic energy of teaser single ‘Rosy’,  ‘Jolene’  cements their next project as one to stay tuned for.

About the track Konner says, “This one was inspired by some friends telling me about their experience going back out into the dating world post covid. An alternative and more literal take is that’s it’s a sequel or maybe an epilogue to Dolly Parton’s Jolene. It turns out that he did leave the narrator of Dolly’s song to go after Jolene but ya know she’s ain’t trying to be caught. Turns out she’s just a swimmer enjoying the ocean and beware to all fools hearted men who go chasing myths.”

‘Bubble’  is a 13-part cerebral mystery that unravels on songs that bring to mind the gruff sentimentality of the late Kris Kristofferson, Lennon’s ‘Jealous Guy’, Eels at their most troubled and the American Gothic sketches of David Ackles; the perfect soundtrack for a Raymond Carver book club.

Recorded in Montreal, it’s self-produced by band members Josh Boguski and Michael Halls at their home studio. This stripped back release is Whitney K’s most raw yet refined work to date—an honest, sonically paradoxical collection that finds fresh possibilities in the familiar shapes of rock, pop, and folk with the same unfiltered energy and poetic gravity we have come to expect from this modern-day troubadour whose descriptive storytelling is filled with sketchy characters and rudimentary comment.

‘Bubble’ is out 12th September. Available for pre-order in White vinyl and Transparent vinyl Rough Trade/Bandcamp exclusive.
