Out now for Love Record Stores: ‘Heaven On Fire’ (Compiled by Jane Weaver) & Modern Studies ‘Life Flows In Endless Song/The Body Is A Tide’

Now an important fixture in the music retail calendar, Love Record Stores takes place on 4th September 2021 and we have two special edition vinyl releases for the occasion. Lucky fans will be able to pick up two limited edition releases from Fire Records: Various Artists ‘Heaven On Fire’ (Compiled by Jane Weaver) and Modern Studies ‘Life Flows In Endless Song/The Body Is A Tide’ (Double EP).

In the age of the playlist, in times where the recommender is royalty, Jane Weaver threads together the spookily hauntological strains of recent Fire releases; sub-navigating styles and genres to create a soundtrack of neo-folk futurism that nods to psychedelia, dream-pop and electronica. ‘Heaven On Fire’ is a chilled-out coming of age, made by a new set of visionaries, lovingly assembled by Jane Weaver; a state-of-the-label address that gathers Vanishing Twin (upfront exclusive from the new album ‘Ookii Gekkou’), Marina Allen, Mega Bog (courtesy of Paradise Of Bachelors), Virginia Wing, Islet, Lucy Gooch, Faten Kanaan, Brigid Mae Power and Okkyung Lee (courtesy of Shelter Press).

The exclusive compilation will be pressed on 500 LTD Edition Deep Red Vinyl and features specially commissioned artwork by Emily Evans.

Following the release of ‘The Weight Of The Sun’ LP, Modern Studies shift from light to dark over two new EPs brought together as six track 12-inch, a record that further cements their reputation for innovative craftsmanship. ‘Life Flows In Endless Song’ showcases the band’s increasingly expansive sound, swelling with orchestrated drama behind the rich vocal pairing of Emily Scott and Rob St John, before their otherworldly dreaminess is pin-pricked at its height by Emily’s beautiful alto on ‘The Failing Light’. ‘The Body Is A Tide’ hails from ominous darker terrains, scratching further into their own psyche; it’s heady and baroque, ornate and super-detailed, an opus that climaxes with ‘High Hymn Summers’ and its slowly-rolling drone, created by processing all the songs from ‘The Weight of the Sun’ played at once.
