Pictish Trail reveals new single ‘Dream Wall’ from forthcoming EP & rescheduled tour dates for 2022

Fire Records reveal the release of brand-new material from Johnny Lynch, AKA Isle-of-Eigg, Scotland dwelling electro-acoustic psych-pop wonder Pictish Trail. Set for release on February 4, 2021 on digital services and as part of Lost Map’s Post Map Club subscription service, ‘Dream Wall’ – the first track to be previewed from a forthcoming new EP of the same name – is a stand-alone single recorded during the ‘Thumb World’ sessions. It features swathes of tremolo guitar, reverb-soaked close harmonies and Mellotronic synths, conjuring the memory of a recurring dream.
Packed with kaleidoscopic remixes of Pictish songs by friends and collaborators including Callum Easter, Kinbote, Bamboo and Good Dog, the Dream Wall EP – due in April – represents an appendage of sorts to Pictish Trail’s critically acclaimed fourth album Thumb World, which was released early in 2020 on Fire Records. A bold, weird, wild, wired, sonically luxurious yet DIY-‘til-I-die voyage to the outer rings of Johnny’s mind at its darkest, funniest and most inventive, Thumb World  attracted a wealth of praise.
When not putting out his own music as Pictish Trail, Johnny is a fulcrum of the British independent music community. Through his label Lost Map Records, he has helped to elevate the likes of Rozi Plain, Seamus Fogarty, Bas Jan, Ed Dowie, Callum Easter and Free Love to new heights. Lost Map’s Howlin’ Fling Festival, which Johnny curates, roughly takes place every other year on the isle of Eigg.
• New Pictish Trail ‘Dream Wall’ EP out 1st April featuring new single from the ‘Thumb World’ sessions.
• Features new ‘Thumb World‘ remixes by collaborators Callum Easter, Kinbote, Bamboo and Good Dog along with a Pictish Trail cover of Moscoman.

We dusted off the Farfisa organ, which provides the warm, gently oscillating bassline for this woozy, psychedelic ballad. Channelling my love for Yo La Tengo, ‘Dream Wall’ is about the frustration of working on something at night, only for it to crumble away as soon as you begin to enjoy it.
