Named for the hyper-recognizable experience of each day bearing witness to a world of private obsessions being aired out in the infinite, Brain Worms may not be wholly new territory for the Melbourne post-punk band and its lyricist/frontwoman Romy Vager, but this time around, there’s a newfound radical acceptance glistening overtop everything.
'End of Everything' is the intrepid seventh album from Mega Bog, a nightmarish experimental pop ensemble led by Erin Elizabeth Birgy. 'End of Everything' was recorded with James Krivchenia (Big Thief) who co-produced the record with Birgy and played drums, bringing his rhythmic mastery and wild percussive spirit. Krivchenia also mixed the record and co-engineered it with Phil Hartunian. The album's fantastical textures and heavy polyphony owe a great deal to synthesizer maestro and pianist Aaron Otheim. Zach Burba, one of the founding members of Mega Bog, plays bass, while Will Segerstrom, Meg Duffy (Hand Habits), and Jackson Macintosh (Drugdealer, TOPS) contribute electric guitars.

A hurtling rock song, 'Midnight Sun' deals in matters of disbelief, and what it feels like to live in a culture that often prefers to argue the semantics than save the world from burning. Aptly furious and defiant, Vager cuts through the chaos singing my city is in ashes / but I’m still burning bright / Hangin’ here like a lantern / in case you change your mind.
New track, 'Squid' powers through the walls of realism and out the other side, imagining what might happen if we were to go back in time, step on something, and… become a squid. And yet, Romy Vager sings lyrics this absurd with an earnestness and desperation so real that you may suddenly feel feelings about it
